Ruby Maxwell Trophy
Friday 10 June at Mossley pavilion saw the second year of the ruby Maxwell trophy. The football match organised by Council worker Jim Maxwell and his family in memory of their late mother is going from strength to strength.
The match takes place with two teams of local footballers competing for the Ruby Maxwell trophy donated by Newtownabbey Borough Council’s sport and play development team. The keenly fought game was seen by a large crowd of local spectators who enjoyed the good weather and high quality football. The match saw the orange team run out winners but the real winner on the evening was the charity who were presented with a cheque for £2036 by the Maxwell family with a further £200 collected from the spectators on the night.
The night came to an end with children and family members releasing balloons into the air.
The event was a great success and all involved would like to thank all the players, fundraiser and people who donated and look forward to an even bigger turnout and support next year.
