Henry Turkington was famously known as ‘The Quiet Man’ of boxing. Winner of numerous fights over a career spanning many years, Henry had success in 44 of his 47 Amateur fights and won an incredible three illustrious titles in one year, becoming the Ulster Junior Champion, the All-Ireland Junior Light Middleweight Champion and winning the Ulster Senior Light Middle Weight in 1963.
Honoured in 1964 as the Newsletter Boxing Sports Personality of the Year, Henry had also represented Ireland internationally in 1962 and 1963. Having then won 19, drawing 1 and losing just 5 Professional fights, Henry was made an Honorary Member of the World Boxing Association in 1987.
