Roundabout Sponsorship
Whiteabbey Roundabout, Shore Road
The landmark sculpture at Whiteabbey roundabout.
Designed as part of an ongoing environmental improvement scheme, the sculpture aims to create a sense of place when entering Whiteabbey. The landmark sculpture represents the famous maritime heritage of Whiteabbey and is also inspired by the monks who wore white robes at the local abbey. Blue was chosen for the beacon colour as it is commonly used to signify truth and security. The wind vanes show the changing wind direction which would have been important to shipping and sailing. Designed by the Landscape designer and Sculptor Stephen Todd who was responsible for landmark sculptures in Coleraine, Manchester and York. He has also been commissioned to create a landmark in Dubai.
Manse Road/Carnmoney Road North Roundabout
3D Bud
The three dimensional floral display represents Newtownabbey Borough Council’s corporate logo. The 3D logo was designed in-house by Skelton Rainey, and is a unique self-watering floral sculpture which will be maintained by the Council’s Parks Team. Produced as part of the Council’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, the Manse/Carnmoney Road roundabout was the first to have this type of sculpture placed, and it is creating high levels of interest.
Lindsay’s Corner Roundabout
The Seedhead Sculpture
Newtownabbey’s latest striking landscape sculpture at Lindsay’s Corner roundabout, the Seedhead Sculpture has been designed by Stephen Todd, to reflect the historical importance of linen production in the borough.
Each up stand is designed to capture the abstract look of a flax field mixed with some wildflowers. Produced locally by McKnight Engineering the Seedheads have already received considerable interest. By combining contemporary European landscape design ideas, wild natural looking grasses and formal plant groupings the scheme changes dramatically with each passing season.
The roundabout has now been sponsored by Chain Reactions, the biggest stockist of specialist cycle components in Europe. Chris Watson, Chain Reactions Managing Director commented:
“We are delighted to be sponsoring Lindsay’s Corner Roundabout as it gives us a fantastic platform to promote Chain Reaction Cycles to thousands of potential customers.”
Beezer
’Beezer’ the Bee Safe Bee is creating a buzz in Newtownabbey as he reminds us of the importance of keeping safe, especially during the summertime. He provides a great opportunity to talk to children about taking extra care now that school’s out.
You’ll see Beezer move about the Borough to different locations every year.
’Beezer’ has been designed and supported by Newtownabbey Borough Council.
