Playground, Anderson Park, Doagh

Details: The children’s play area at Anderson
Park, Doagh, has been completely refurbished. The play area, which originally
opened in 1990, has had a complete makeover with new exciting play equipment
for 3-12 year olds. The Council contributed £75,000 to the project and has worked
closely with the community in the planning and design of the new facility. Some
pieces of the equipment can be used by children with mobility problems. It is
also proposed that the Council, in partnership with the local community, will
develop a multi-use games area on land beside the play area.
Ballyclare Cemetery Extension
Cost: £534,000
Status: Completed
Details: Provision of new grave plots, memorial garden
and maintenance compound.
Mossley Mill Dam
Cost: £200,000
Status: Planning
Details: Provision of pedestrian access, strengthening and enhancement of biodiversity areas possible access for fishing.
Mossley Recreation Grounds
Cost: £1, 721,600
Status: Construction
Details: The refurbishment of Mossley Recreation Grounds and Pavilion are progressing well and are on schedule for completion in September 2008. A new play area and multi-use games area will be constructed along with three new grass pitches. Look out for the solar panels which will be used to heat the new showers.
Jordanstown Loughshore Park Play Area, Jordanstown
Cost: £270,000
Status: Construction
Details: One of the area’s most popular parks is to get a new play area. The Shadow Youth Council helped design the play area and it should be open by the end of August 2008. It will have equipment unique to Northern Ireland.
Newtownabbey Way
Cost: £973,000
Status: Construction
Details: Following on from the Council’s success
in receiving £350,000 from the National Lottery Connect2 award, work began on
Phase 3 of the Newtownabbey Way in March of this year. This work, involving the
building of a shared use pedestrian/cycle path and 4 bridges, will link the existing
paths at Hazelbank, Loughshore, Whiteabbey and Glen Park with Monkstown Village.
The pathways will then continue through Three Mile Water Park to Mossley Mill.
Work on Phase3 is due for completion by autumn 2008.
St. Augustine’s Church Ruin, Ballyeaston
Cost: £88,280
Status: Construction
Details: The conservation of St. Augustine’s Church Ruin in Ballyeaston is being carried out in partnership with the Church of Ireland who own the site. The Heritage Lottery Fund has given £49,600 to conservation costs and Ballyeaston Village Community Group provided £5,000 with the Council contributing approximately £90,000. The aim of the projects is to conserve and give pedestrians access to the Ruin.
