The Northern Ireland Primary School 7-A-Side finals took place on Wednesday 18 June at the Mid-Ulster Sports Arena, Cookstown.  The event saw fifteen regional winners battle it out to be crowned Northern Ireland champions.  Whitehouse Primary School who had been victorious in Newtownabbey’s regional heat finals, represented the Borough and went on to win, defeating St Bernard’s Primary School, Belfast in a penalty shoot out following a tightly fought final.

Newtownabbey’s Irish Football Association (IFA) Grassroots Development Officer, Steven Livingstone, said

“This was a fantastic achievement for the school and the Borough and I’d like to congratulate the players for their commitment, skill and teamwork which saw them win on the day.  A big thank-you must go Clint and Harry from Newtownabbey’s PSNI who transported the kids on the day, and to Dean and Jenni from the Council’s Sport Development Team. Also to Mayor Alderman Victor Robinson who arranged for the players to visit the Council headquarters for refreshments and receive a memento of the day, and to Mark Stewart from Abbeycentre who generously donated a prize of £250 to the school”.
