With this year’s May Fair in full swing Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Environmental Health staff are warning the public about some novelty items that could cause serious harm or injury.
Clifford Todd Environmental Health Manager said: “We are aware of a number of items that have appeared at similar events around the province and we are asking the public to be aware of the potential dangers. Items include “Yoyo Balls” which have been prohibited in the United Kingdom since 2003; “BB Guns” that fire ball bearings and novelty cigarette lighters. Our officers are checking goods for sale from the fixed stalls that must display one of the Council’s street trading licences. However, some casual traders operating on foot may not have been subject to these checks and customers should be on the lookout for any of these goods that could be potentially hazardous.”
Clifford Todd continued:
“If members of the public are concerned about any goods, they should contact Environmental Health Staff for further advice on 028 0934 0161.”
