Last week the Mayor, Alderman Nigel Hamilton, hosted two evenings at Mossley Mill to celebrate Christmas with guests from the Newtownabbey community.
On Thursday 13 December representatives from the many nationalities living and working in Newtownabbey were guests at the event. Entertainment was provided byEast Antrim Traditional Music School, Dzien Mikolaj and Alicja Matwejczuk from Cooltura Polish Community Association, Arts Ekta and Beyond Skin gave a performance of Indian dance and music from around the World, and Kathy Wolff from Community Relations Forum gave a poetry reading and tale of the cross community journey of Newtownabbey Women’s Forum.
On Friday 14 December the event recognised the contribution made by the “unsung heroes” who work hard behind the scenes in our community to make a difference to the lives of others. Ancillary staff from schools and care homes from across the Borough, caretakers, cleaners, school dinner staff, school crossing wardens, classroom assistants and volunteers attended. Christmas music was provided by the Jordan Victory Church. On both nights guests enjoyed the music of the Cullen String Quartet.
