Abbots Cross Primary School won the grand final of the Newtownabbey stage of the Sun Newspaper 7-a-side competition at University of Ulster Jordanstown on 31st May. The competition was run by IFA Grassroots Programme and the Council and was for
Primary 7 pupils. The top scoring Abbots Cross team will now represent Newtownabbey in the national championship in mid June.
Stephen Livingston, the Newtownabbey Grassroots Football Development Officer commented:
“I would like to congratulate the team on their success and wish them well for the championships. The Newtownabbey heats had a total of 21 schools taking part and the football was really good fun for the teams involved. I would like to thank Abbey Centre who gave £100 to the winners. We also had great help from the PSNI with transport and in organising the matches. This is the first time this competition has been run locally and I hope it will become an annual event.”
