The Mayor tees off with Laing Mewhort of Laing Consulting, Main Sponsors.

Over eighty golfers took part in the Mayor’s Charity Golf Day at Ballyclare Golf Club on Friday 18 May. The golfers all had to battle with the wind and rain at some time in their round. Laing Consulting was the main sponsor for the event which raised money for the Mayor's charities. This year they are:  the Make a Wish Foundation UK, CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), and the Antrim Area Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor, Alderman Lynn Frazer, commented:

I am not a golfer and I have to admit I do not too know much about the game. I do know however that this golf day is the major fundraising event for my charities and I really appreciate all the support for today’s event. I would like to thank everyone who played in or supported the event in some way. ”

At the prize giving the Mayor also thanked the 18 sponsors who sponsored individual holes on the course. They were AbbeyCentre, Acheson and Glover, Agnew Corporate, Ballyearl Arts and Leisure Centre, CBS Group, Dargan Press, Eastonville Traders, Fonacab, Fraser Houses, Hewlett Packard, Laing Consulting, Millward Brown Ulster, Northgate Information Solutions, Ostick and Williams, Royal Mail, Robert Barton & Son Ltd, Tailored Image and The Bureau. Thanks also went to all the staff in local companies and shops who generously provided ballot prizes.

There was a Hole in One Competition at the 11th with the prize being a Volkswagen Jetta SE 1.9TDI kindly provided by Agnew Corporate. Unfortunately none of the players drove away with the car, the wind got the better of the golfers.

The winner with 36 pts was Roy Dickson from Ballyclare Golf Club. Roy played with the WFM windows team. The team prize went to Ballyearl Arts and Leisure Centre and the ladies prize went to Suzanne McPhillips, a Fortwilliam member with 27 points and who played with a team from Corrs Corner.
