A second “Living Healthy, Living Well” health fair is due to take place at Sixmile Leisure Centre on Wednesday 23rd May. A health fair was held in Mossley Mill in February for Council staff, while the Sixmile fair has been organised for members of the public and leisure centre staff. Another one is due to take place due at the Valley Leisure Centre on 10th October.
The health fairs aim to improve health by educating people about the root causes of ill health and their prevention. Funded by the Investing in Health Partnership, Newtownabbey is the first Council in the Northern Investing for Health Partnership area to run a series of events like this. A wide range of exhibitors from various charities, retailers and other organisations will be providing information on issues such as mental and physical health and healthy eating. The Action Cancer Big Bus will also be present and an appointment system will operate for mammograms and men’s health checks. To book your appointment on the big bus call Tel: 028 9080 3344.
Clifford Todd, Acting Environmental Services Manager for Newtownabbey Borough Council, commented:
“Following the success of last year’s health fair for staff, we are delighted to be rolling this initiative out across the Borough for members of the public. I would encourage people to take this opportunity to come along and get those vital health checks carried out or get advice that only too often we put off. I hope members of the public find it as beneficial as our staff have done.“
