The new play area at Rushpark was officially opened by the Mayor of Newtownabbey, Alderman Victor Robinson on 4 October. Families and Councillors enjoyed the sunshine as the Mayor and local girls Kyra Kerr and Brooke Young cut the ribbon. The play park is already proving very popular with children and their families. Children, grandparents and parents enjoyed a stop off at the park en-route home from nearby schools as the Official Opening was taking place.
The new play area is much larger and has a greater range of play equipment than the original play area. The land for the play park was provided by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and the Council has spent £77,000 on the scheme. The Council’s sale of land on the former site of Rushpark Community Centre to a housing association provided the funds for the play area scheme. Indeed the new play area is within sight of the housing development, so even more families will be able to enjoy this great new facility on their doorstep.
The Mayor of Newtownabbey, Alderman Victor Robinson was delighted to officially open the play area and commented:
“In Newtownabbey we have some of the best play facilities in Northern Ireland and the this latest opening in Rushpark shows our continued commitment to investing in providing modern, high quality play facilities in the Borough, whilst ensuring optimum value for money. I know the families living locally have eagerly awaited this opening and that the local children will have great fun in the new Rushpark play area.”
