Vanessa Hodgen, Mark Sloan and Stephen Finlay from Newtownabbey Borough Council get geared up to launch the Newtownabbey Motor Vehicle Roadshow taking place on Saturday 6 October.

Saturday 6th October will see Newtownabbey Borough Council team up again with the Newtownabbey Road Safety Committee to hold Newtownabbey’s Vehicle Roadshow.  The roadshow will help raise awareness of road safety measures and improve air quality, by allowing motorists to have FREE vehicle emissions testing, headlight testing and a tyre safety check.

The roadshow will take place at the B&Q/Tesco’s Car Park, Abbey Retail Park, Church Road, from 10am to 4pm. Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Environmental Health Officers will check the amount of pollution contained within the exhaust fumes of your car and if emissions are too high motorists will be advised to have their vehicle serviced.

Hugh Kelly, Director of Environmental Services, at the Council says “Cars are the biggest source of air pollution in Newtownabbey.  New developments in vehicle technology are helping to reduce the amount of pollution produced by each individual car, but the increasing number of cars on our roads means that overall emissions are still a major problem.”

Newtownabbey Road Safety Committee have arranged for motorists to get their car headlamp beams tested by CarTech of Mallusk and tyre safety checks courtesy of Magowan Tyres of Mallusk.

Mrs Pat Martin, Newtownabbey Road Safety Committee comments “Headlamp beam checks are vital to ensure the lights are aligned correctly, not only for the benefit of the driver but also to prevent dazzling of other road users. Tyre safety checks are also extremely important and motorists will be given remedial advice on the day if their tyres are not up to scratch."

Mrs Martin continues “Headlamps, lights and emissions which are not set right will fail your MOT so I would encourage all car owners to come along to this FREE motor check!”
