Sentry Hill Garden Open for Green Fingered Fanatics!
Posted:20 August 2012

The Community Garden at Sentry Hill is having an open day on Saturday 25th August from 11am to 3pm for gardening enthusiasts to come and enjoy the surroundings and learn some tricks of the trade.

Newtownabbey Borough Council has teamed up with the DoE Rethink Waste team and Conservation Volunteers NI to provide compost demonstrations throughout the day and staff will be on hand to offer advice. Green-fingered guests will also be able to get answers to any of their gardening dilemmas from experts including Groundwork’s David Carver and Maurice Parkinson of Ballyrobert Cottage Garden. Whilst the gardeners enjoy the demonstrations, talks and advice, a drop-in arts and crafts workshop led by local artist Janet Crymble will entertain those who are less gifted with all things green.

Music in the Courtyard will provide the perfect relaxing setting for enjoying the beautiful garden and guests can enjoy the BBQ or bring a picnic along. As all of the activities and displays are free of charge, with the exception of Sentry Hill House tours which will also be open on the day, the event is a great way for gardeners to get some helpful advice and enjoy some interesting demonstrations.
