Potential triathletes are being encouraged to get on their bikes and start training for the 2012 Stenaline Triathlon which is being held at the Valley Leisure Centre on Sunday 2 September 2012. The Mayor of Newtownabbey Alderman Victor Robinson was joined by the current course record holder Brian Campbell at the launch of the event which is now in its 26th year.
The fantastic sport is sure to be one of the main attractions during the 2012 Olympic Games, held this summer and now everyone can get in on the action by joining the 2012 Stenaline Triathlon. The event is suitable for all athletes from beginner to advanced, offering a challenge for those who wish to get involved in the sport. With a 750 metre swim in the Valley pool, a 20km bike ride around Newtownabbey and a 5km run in the Valley Park, the triathlon is sure to be a fun challenge for those who participate.
Dean Holmes, Sport and Play Development Officer said,
“The Stenaline Triathlon has always attracted big crowds and we are hoping to see even more aspiring athletes get involved this year. Also, with no increase in the fee to participate from last year, there is no excuse not to enter.”
