National Breast Feeding Week (24th - 30th June 2012) was marked with a Teddy Bear’s Picnic in The Valley Leisure Centre.

During the event organised by Abbey SureStart, new mums who completed a course in Peer Support Breastfeeding Training were presented with certificates by Deputy Mayor, Alderman Fraser Agnew. The training which was provided in conjunction with the Regional Health Improvement Agency, brings the total number of local volunteers to nine. Breastfeeding Peer Supporters are mums who have been specially trained to support and help other mums to gain a better understanding of breastfeeding and the benefits it provides for them and baby. Support can be given by phone or home visits. For more information on Breastfeeding Peer Support in Newtownabbey, please contact Abbey SureStart on: 028 9086 0938.
