The Mayor of Newtownabbey, Alderman Billy Webb, recently welcomed Young Enterprise Northern Ireland’s North East regional offices staff to Mossley Mill, in order to hear for himself the work that the UK’s leading business and enterprise education charity has undertaken in the Borough over the last two decades.
Currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary in Northern Ireland, Young Enterprise will deliver business programmes to over 18,000 pupils in the North East region this academic year, including students from primary school to undergraduate level.
Young Enterprise Northern Ireland’s Senior Development Manager (NE Region), Laura Kerr commented,
“We are delighted to accept the Mayor’s invitation to Mossley Mill, and to see him take such a personal interest in the professional development of the young people of the Borough. Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Economic Development Department has been a champion of Young Enterprise Northern Ireland for many years, and recently supported an entrepreneurship masterclass for five primary schools within the Borough. We look forward to working with the Council in the next academic year, and in future years to come.”
The Mayor, Alderman Billy Webb added,
“Young Enterprise must be congratulated on the excellent work undertaken in the local community and Northern Ireland as a whole. By interacting with over 95,000 young people a year Young Enterprise build a connected world of young people, business volunteers and educators and inspire success through enterprise. Their programmes are empowering the next generation with the confidence, ability and ambition to succeed in a rapidly changing global economy.”
Young Enterprise Northern Ireland’s North East operations have been based at the former Nortel site on Doagh Road for many years, with Nortel providing ‘in-kind’ support to the charity with its office accommodation.
Laura continued,
“We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Nortel for their considerable support over the years and look forward to continuing our work at the Doagh Road site with Bombardier.”
