This week the Mayor of Newtownabbey, Alderman Billy Webb accepted a cheque for £1225.50 raised for his three charities by the participants of the Santa Stroll.  The Mayor has chosen Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, Gis a Hug Foundation and Médecins Sans Frontières as charities to fundraise for during his year in office. This generous donation will provide much needed financial assistance for the respective organisations.  Over 60 Santas took part in the 2011 Santa Stroll and the 3km sponsored walk has now become a much anticipated annual event.

Speaking at the presentation the Mayor, Alderman Billy Webb commented:

"I would like to thank everyone who took part in the 2011 Santa Stroll and also to those who sponsored them.  They all looked very impressive in their Santa suits and attracted some quizzical looks from passers-by.  The event was a great success and all the Santa’s finished the walk around the North Pole, at Corr’s Corner, where they were met with a well-earned cup of tea and a mince pie.  I would like to thank Asher’s Bakery for being there and supplying the hardy walkers with very welcomed refreshments."
