Nearly ninety golfers took part in the Mayor’s Charity Golf Day at Ballyclare Golf Club on Friday 19 May. It was windy and wet for those who went off early but the afternoon turned out fine and dry and some good scores were returned. The event raised money for the Mayor's four charities: Northern Ireland ME Association, Rethink, Sense and the Irish Rovers “Kick Poverty Project”.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor, Alderman William DeCourcy, commented:
“I am not a golfer and I have to admit do not too know much about the game. I do know however that this golf day is the major fundraising event for my charities and I really appreciate all the support for today’s event.”
The Mayor also thanked the sponsors: Frazer Houses, Millward Brown Ulster, Royal Mail, Abbeycentre, Cahill Motor Engineering, Robert Barton & Son Ltd, Eastonville Traders, Tailored Image, Campbell Catering, Northgate Information Solutions, Agnew Corporate Ltd, Ballyearl Golf Shop, Nicholson & Bass, Ballyearl Arts & Leisure Centre,Print Library and Kennedy Fitzgerald Associates.
This year, as an extra incentive, there was a Hole in One Competition with the prize being a Volkswagen Jetta SE 1.9TDI kindly provided by Agnew Corporate Ltd Unfortunately none of the participants drove away with the car.
The winner with 44pts was Ronnie Bell, a fourteen handicapper from the Hilton Golf Club at Templepatrick. Ronnie’s fourball representing JW McNinch Solicitors also won the team prize.
