Neighbourhood Watch Northern Ireland
Neighbourhood Watch

The NIO/CSU in partnership with PSNI and NI Policing Board has introduced this scheme to support and promote neighbourhood watch schemes across NI. It will develop policy, programmes and best practice and represent Neighbourhood Watch nationally, in order to achieve greater public participation and awareness of Neighbourhood Watch. In conjunction with the police, local schemes will be encouraged to foster community links that help reassure people about the fear of crime and offer crime prevention advice to residents.

In Newtownabbey, with the support of PSNI and the CSP Coordinator and the commitment of the NHW Coordinators we now have 12 schemes running in the Borough: Anna's Grove, Ballyclare (Ollardale), Ballynure, Carnhill, Carnvue, Elmfield, Glenkeen/Lenamore, Rogan Manor, Tobar Glen, Twinburn, Whitehouse, Ypres Park.

Newtownabbey NHW Co-ordinators meet with the Community Safety Partnership Co-ordinator and Police Service of Northern Ireland representatives bi-monthly in Newtownabbey Borough Council. Neighbourhood Watch is a method of developing close liaison between households in a neighbourhood, the local police and other relevant agencies.

The aim is to help people protect themselves and their property, and to reduce the fear of crime by:

  • Improved home security
  • Greater vigilance
  • Fostering community spirit
  • Improving your environment
