Ballyclare Townhall

Ballyclare Town Hall

The present building stands on the site of an old wooden market house. In 1866 the old structure was demolished and replaced by a stone building, and in 1873 the Town Hall was built on top of the market house.

Gradually the Town Hall became a social centre with dances and events being held in the upstairs area above the Market House.

In 1935 major improvements were made including the construction of a clock tower.

During the Second World War and particularly in the fifties and sixties the sprung floor of the ballroom attracted dancers from far and wide.

With the creation of Newtownabbey District Council in 1973 the ballroom became the new Council Chamber.

The Council Civic Headquarters has now moved to Mossley Mill and the Town Hall is being developed for both commercial and community use.

The Town Hall is in the Square, Main Street, Ballyclare.
