Heritage Home
The Museums and Heritage Service for Newtownabbey offers a range of public facilities and resources particularly in relation to a widely accessible leisure and learning programme through outreach projects, education services, temporary exhibitions and heritage events and activities.
The service is part of the Leisure Services Department of the Council and is also part of the Mid-Antrim Museums Service (a partnership comprising of Newtownabbey, Carrickfergus, Larne and Ballymena Councils).
Online Survey
The Council’s Museums and Heritage Service operates Museum at The Mill, The Flax Gallery and Sentry Hill Historic House, along with providing a range of services such as grant-aid, advice and support for heritage conservation and management of the museum collections.
A plan is currently being prepared to lead and develop the service through the next 3 years and we would be grateful if you could complete this short survey to help with the planning process.
All completed questionnaires will be entered into a free prize draw to WIN a family ticket to Sentry Hill, the Council’s historic house.
Heritage Walking Trails
Heritage walking trails of Doagh, Ballyclare, Ballynure and Whitehouse are available in leaflet form and in pdf format (see below). Walks are self-guided and are of 1 - 2 hours duration. The walks will lead you on a tour of each area pointing out various heritage features en route. Leaflets are free of charge and are available from the Tourist Information Point at the Council’s Civic Centre, Mossley Mill. For more information contact Samantha Curry on 028 9034 0064.

Ballyclare Historical Society
The Ballyclare Historical Society was launched 22 years ago. Their very informative web site details their activities and the local history around Ballyclare. There’s also loads of information on Ballyclare exiles, researching family history and links to other historical sites in Ireland.
The White House
The White House is the oldest building in the Borough of Newtownabbey and is situated on Belfast Lough on the edge of the city. It was built in the sixteenth century and much of the building has survived.
Northern Ireland Family History Society
Northern Ireland Family History Society was formed in 1979 with the objective of fostering interest in family history with special reference to families who have roots in the North of Ireland and their descendants, wherever they may be. Local members usually join and attend meetings at their nearest Branch by paying the annual fee set by each Branch. This also allows them to attend meetings held by any of the Branches.
