Sports Grants (Groups)
This scheme aims to support our policy in amateur sport and recreation, and it is designed to assist sports clubs, officials and performers in their chosen sport. The scheme will help projects and activities at all levels of sports development, from foundation stage through to excellence. In addition, we can often offer support for projects in the form of advice, guidance or other resources.
Types of Grants and Their Criteria
- 75% of the group or organisation members must live in the Newtownabbey Borough Council area.
- Applications must fall into one of the following categories:
- New clubs: Groups making new applications for running costs can, in the first year, apply for a seeding grant up to a maximum of £200. This grant can cover initial outlay costs and administration.
- Club equipment: For buying items of sports equipment for general club use at a junior, senior or veteran level. In certain cases, we may also consider specialised items of equipment for individuals who perform at a high level.
- Coaching or other qualifications: For individuals who wish to improve their coaching or other qualifications (for example, sports officials). We will consider course fees, travel and accommodation expenses.
- Coaching courses: Clubs and organisations who wish to promote sports coaching courses for both members and nonmembers. Courses at junior level will be especially welcome. We will consider expenditure relating to coaches, facility hire and promotional material.
- Sports events: We will consider sports events organised by clubs or individuals which are open to the general public, or are of provincial, national or international importance.
- Travel: Travel grants are available to assist individuals or teams who are representing their province or country in competition.
- Excellence: We will consider teams and individuals who incur considerable expenses while they are training and competing at national or international level. In addition, we may also support national organisations, such as the Commonwealth Games Council.
- We will not allocate grant aid to recognised charities or commercial ventures
