Litter/Fly-Tipping

The thoughtless disposal of litter and other waste is a widespread problem resulting in the defacement of an area and a cost to local ratepayers. The Pollution Control Section employs a full-time Litter Warden although all members of the team can enforce the Litter Order and can issue fixed penalty notices (£50) where someone is seen dropping litter or prosecute offenders where appropriate.

Council Cleansing Services provide a collection service for larger or bulky items that cannot be collected during the normal refuse collection rounds. There is no charge for this service.

To arrange a special collection for large or bulky items please call us on 028 9034 0160.

Where large amounts of waste are being dumped or commercial operators are disposing of waste illegally investigations and prosecutions are undertaken by the Environment and Heritage Service.
