Air Quality
We aim to effectively deliver Local Air Quality Management through implementation of our Local Air Quality Review and Assessment System in order to ensure the air quality objectives set out in the National Air Quality Strategy are met.
What We Do
- Monitor air quality at a number of locations throughout the Borough using automatic monitoring equipment and diffusion tubes.
- Regularly review and assess air pollution levels within the Borough in accordance with the Environment Order for Northern Ireland (2002).
- Carry out vehicle emission testing
- Investigate complaints in relation to the emission of dark smoke from factories, nuisance from the open air burning of waste and the emission of smoke from domestic premises located within smoke control areas.
- Implement a smoke control programme and carry out enforcement patrols in our 17 smoke control areas.
- Assess the heights of commercial and industrial chimneys prior to use.
