Community Support Plan
Newtownabbey Borough Council's Community Support Plan covers the three-year period April 06 - March 09. Detailed action plans for this period are included with clear targets and performance indicators.
Community Support Plans are developed by each local authority to identify how they will provide support to the community and voluntary sector and deliver services and advice. The programme places a strong emphasis on involving and working with local communities in order to identify sectors, areas and issues of greatest need and to develop tailored interventions accordingly.
From consultation, Newtownabbey Borough Council identified priorities and issues for the sector and presented a range of actions to address these.
These priorities are divided into three main areas:
Priority 1: Capacity Building
To strengthen and support the community and voluntary sector in Newtownabbey through providing access to skills, knowledge and experience
Priority 2: Resourcing the Community and Voluntary Sector
To enable the sector to access and utilise the resources required to support community activity throughout the Borough in an accessible and efficient manner
Priority 3: Networking and Forming Partnerships
To consolidate partnership working within the sector and encourage joint action with key stakeholders beyond the Borough to sustain the sector into the future
