Shared Space

This programme aims to support groups as they strive to make their buildings, projects and events more accessible to the ‘whole’ community.

Consultation has identified the fact that particular communities do not access certain facilities due to fear of physical or verbal abuse. This is manifested in a more subtle way in towns and villages across the cluster with regard to where people socialise etc.

Interventions in relation to the procedures for publicising, implementing and managing such ventures will help to alleviate these concerns and promote a greater level and diversity of access e.g. Orange halls within communities that groups wish to promote as a community facility to all within the area including Protestants, Catholics and Ethnic Minorities.

Two community groups have been awarded funding under the Shared Space theme, The Barron Hall and Carrickfergus YMCA Youth and Community Centre. Please see below for some further information on these projects and how Peace III funding is being utilised.
