Biodiversity

What Is It All About?
Biodiversity is the total variety of life on earth and includes both plant and animal life in all its forms, some of which we can see everyday, but also much more which is more difficult to spot. Biodiversity is all living things however grand or small and how all these living things are intricately linked together often in partnerships of which we will never be aware.

Did You Know?...
The first year of a long term buzzard monitoring wing-tagging programme has been completed. 39 chicks and 2 adults have been tagged in N.I. in counties Down and Antrim - with the aim of monitoring first year survival of chicks, dispersal and turnover rate of adults at breeding sites. If you see any of these amazing birds could send records of any sightings to buzzardsni@hotmail.co.uk - record numbers on wing tags and confirm tag colours – note that ‘left’ and ‘right’ refer to the birds left and right. All buzzards tagged in the UK and ROI in 2011 have orange on the left with NI Buzzards also carrying yellow on the right.
